Best utilization of your iPod and Laptop Battery

The laptops and iPods users demand ease of accessing their devices when they have paid the worth of getting the device. Both these devices are portable. So, the battery, its standby time and other related issues are of great relevance to the user. They always want their battery to perform well and give them a good backup, in case of electricity failure or when they are on the move.

There are so many battery types available in the market. The users get confused at times that either they flatten them or get them recharged every time they use the batteries. And, does it affect or matter in anyway?

Well, the simple answer is that it does matter and should be taken care of. There are some batteries that can get destroyed, if they are improperly used. While there are some others, which have a lesser or reduced life. Following text will highlight this fact with the discussion of some distinct battery types:

Lithium Ion (LI-ion) Batteries

Lithium Ion Batteries, also known as Li-ion are used in almost all new Apple’s laptops and iPods. Digital camera and some cell phones also utilize this type of battery. For its best and long lasting performance, the more you charge it, the better and longer it will perform.

These batteries can be used up to 300 discharges. This means that if you use them completely once they get fully discharged, then you have consumed just 1/300th of the battery’s total life. It is best to keep them always on charger when they are not in use. Further, also keep them cool while charging.

NiCad Batteries

NiCad batteries are the other extreme of Li-ion batteries. They are ideal to use till they completely get discharged. This type of battery is getting obsolete, but still found in cordless phones and some older laptops. These are intelligent batteries and they remember if you charge them before they get completely flat. So, if you continue this practice of charging them when they are half full, then they will stop working whenever they reach that half full or half empty level.

NiMH Batteries

This type of batteries is almost identical to the NiCad battery type except the fact that if you discharge them completely or near end, then still, they won’t hurt the user as much as the NiCad batteries.

Car Batteries

Car batteries, also known as lead batteries are commonly used in most of the camcorders. They are infamous for collapsing when completely flat. Each time, they get fully flat, they cause irreversible harm. If this continues for 3 or 4 times, the battery will become completely useless. Just like the Lithium Ion battery type, the car battery type should also be charged as much and as full as you can.
